Back to Back

So this was my first weekend of a true 'double', 2 days of back to back long runs...in hopes of properly training for the 50K in early May.
I competed in a 10 mile race on Saturday, then had my husband drop me off in Manitou Springs so that I could run home, approx. 10 miles.

The weather was gorgeous, warm yet VERY windy. This time of year when we get warm weather in Colorado, you can expect lots of wind.

I took about 1/2 road and 1/2 trails to get home. As always around here, lots of hills. My legs were tight and heavy but I persevered. I ran for 1:33. Glad I did it, it's a start.

I have two weeks to get ready for the last race in the winter series, a 20K.

10 mIle trail series race report

UGH!!! I new I was in trouble with all of the snow that arrived earlier this week. I knew it would not melt off the further north you go on the trail. Just as I had predicted 4-10 inches and only ATV tracks to follow, that spells disaster for me.

I wore my screw shoes in hopes of not falling on my face, I was able to stay barely upright for most of the race. Lots of twisted ankles, lots of banging my calves with the other shoe and leaving enough scrapes to draw blood.

I am disappointed that I was not able to hang with the women I had raced with 3 weeks ago, have they been closet training???

It took me 44 minutes to reach the turn-around and 39 minutes for the return trip.

Sometimes I wonder if I went hard enough...I can tell if I went hard enough when I am still sweating after my shower. Yes, I am. Anyone know the reason for this?
Oh well, gotta learn and move on.

Welcome to my hectic, crazy world...that's the way I like it!
I am a wife to one, mother of two and teacher of many. If all of this isn't enough I love to get my heart rate up, ironman, marathon, trail running or just trying to keep up with the kiddos.

My current curiosity is with ultras, ultra-distance running events. (anything longer than 26.2 miles) I plan to start with a 50K in May (location still up in the air) then try to get that elusive 3:25 marathon time in October. My sick, twisted thinking is that the 50K will toughen up my legs for those 'thrilling' last 6 miles of the marathon. Kooky, I know. There has to be a better way, so until someone notifies me, that is my plan.

This blog will let me air-out my struggles and successes, I welcome you to join me!
